Download Feature DIVX 51mb ---- Download Outtakes DIVX 30mb ---- (Right click to download to your desktop) Filming for the Pertwee diploma took place in March 2009, to roughly coincide with Jonathan Miles' 30th birthday who wanted to make a film as part of his celebrations. An idea had been developed to involve a gang of delinquents dressed and acting as Jon Pertwee similar to the Monty Python "Hell's Grannies" sketch. Once it came down to writing some sort of script this idea evolved into a school for budding Jon Pertwee enthusiasts. It would feature them learning to quote the 3rd Doctor's iconic lines similar to the Santa schools which ensure all those bearded actors in shopping centre grottoes can talk the talk. Appeals for ideas from friends resulted in the slightly more varied sketch show format which we ended up making. Filming was completed in a single Saturday at a church in Bolton, and as you can probably tell, the cast are having a whale of a time in their wigs and bow ties. We didn't get as many "Pertwees" on the day as we would have liked (I think some stayed away as they probably freaked out at the idea of what we were making!) but we had enough to fill a small classroom. Communal Jon Pertwee quoting comes quite naturally to Westlake actors it seems! Production wise, everything was carefully unambitious as we didn't have the time to spend hours setting up effects shots. There was only the cold realisation that the Death to the Daleks psychic assault sequence was going to take a monster amount of fx rendering time! It was a lot of fun flooding a kitchen with a smoke machine and reverse strangling Gareth with a telephone wire. Jonathan, who had the hardest job of the day kept up his detached mentor role well as he was asked to stroll up and down corridors, opening and closing doors for hours! This was also the first production of young Malcolm Isles, who we hope will not be psychologically scarred from being inducted so young into the crazy world of the Pertwee!
